Calcium Butyrate

Butyric acid’s calcium salt It is available both as powder (assay 98%) and granulate.
It appears as a soft and white hygroscopic powder, with characteristic smell of butyric acid. It is water – soluble, creating a slightly opalescent solution. It is mainly used as a food supplement. Calcium butyrate helps maintain and restore the physiological balance of calcium.

Butyric acid is a saturated, non-essential, four-carbon fatty acid found mainly in the milk of ruminants. Due to its low molecular weight, butyric acid is volatile and it has a not particularly pleasant odor.

Butyric acid, supplemented throught diet with its salts, represents an energy source for the cells of the intestinal mucosa, promoting their replication. Furthermore, thanks to the ability to inhibit the activity of the enzyme histone deacetylase, it can stop the proliferation of cancerous cells, with possible protective effect against colon cancer.
